Worried about a friend

Post by virgil »

A friend of mine got in a bad car accident five days ago. My contact doesn't have a lot of information on their condition except that they're still unconscious, opened their eyes for about half a minute (eyes didn't focus), and still in ICU. I don't know the extent of the damage other than what I can infer from this little bit of information.

What are the chances of survival by this point? Or is the information too little to make a good estimate?

Having spoken to a medical professional about a similar case about a year ago:

"If they are in the hospital, and not in an actual Coma or dead two days later they will probably live."

There is not a lot I can say about brain damage, because you know... I don't know. But it's certainly possible. However, if they are in a hospital and conscious some of the time: Fucking excellent chances of living.

The U.S. isn't a democracy and if you think it is, you are a rube.

That's libertarians for you - anarchists who want police protection from their slaves.

Not good, but this is usually the point that if they are allowing visitors, they're very good to have.

It's been said many times that unresponsive patients do hear and experience things around them, even if they're yet unable to interact with it.

I've driven pretty far to help a friend in the hospital.
